Abstract

Illuminating pyrotechnical prod. is manufactured by (a) pouring into a mould an uncrosslinked compsn. consisting of (I) magnesium as reducing agent. (II) an oxidising mineral selected from alkali(ne earth) nitrates and nitrites, and (III) a binder selected from (a) 10-23 esp. 11-20 wt.%, based on compsn. carboxylated polybutadiene, and (b) 15-23 esp. 16-22 wt.% silicone resin, and (c) crosslinking the binder. Easily produced by casting in a mould. Avoids the need for coating particles of a reducing metal. No content of dangerous plasticisers. High illumination efficiency, e. e.g. more than 16,000 cd. s/g. The wt. ratio of I/II is pref. 1.7-2.5/1. II pref. consists of sodium nitrate with a particle size of less than 20 mu. III pref. has a mol. wt. of 500-10,000.
