Abstract

Coating machine, for the mfr. of confectionery and pharmaceutical prods., is of the centrifugal type operating in vacuo. The prods. consist of a centre, which can be a dry fruit, such as an almond or hazel-nut, or any other confectionery prod., such as chewing gum, almond paste, boiled sugar, liquorice, chocolate etc. A coat of gum is applied and the centres are then covered with a sugared or a chocolate layer of varying degrees of thickness and hardness by means of a soln. The operation is effected in a rotating centrifuge and the coated centres are then dried. The use of the vacuum in the enclosure promotes the film forming action of the sprayed soln.; the coatings are obtd. more rapidly and are more uniform.
