Abstract

Drying and/ or sterilisation of containers, such as ampoules or bottles used for holding pharmaceutical prods., is effected by currents of hot gas, such as air, combined with the action of microwaves. Specif., the appts. consists of a movable, horizontal base and a fixed tunnel; the walls of both these parts are covered with a lining which is permeable to microwaves. The ampoules to be treated are arranged vertically in trays on supports; these are movable in grooves parallel to the direction of the propagation of the microwaves. A first airflow is directed vertically against the openings of the ampoules. A second flow is directed horizontally to eliminate any vapour which may have condensed of the walls of the necks. A third flow, parallel to the second, is directed to the plane of contact of the base of the tray with the lower ends of the containers. The action of the three gas glows can be combined with vibration of the trays.
