Abstract

Solid or liquid material in grains or droplets from 0.005 to 1.0 m.m. diameter are encapsulated by spraying through a falling curtain of liquid enrobing material; cooling occurs by collection and washing with a solvent which also dissolves any unencapsulated material and form an additional film on the surface of the capsule. Used in the protection of corrosive materials during handling, e.g. solid caustic soda encapsulated in a paraffin/polyethylene wax mixture is safe to handle and inert to cold water. In hot water the capsules rupture and the caustic soda dissolves in the normal way.
