Abstract

Sintered metal oxide varistor contg. a small proportion of selected additives has a Ag-free passivating coating, pref. of a vitreous material. In particular, the varistor is based on ZnO contg. added oxide(s) of Bi, Co, Mn and/or Ti and the coating contains oxide(s) of Bi, B and/or Si. the coating is (largely) absorbed by the varistor and is provided with metal contacts. The varistor is much more stable than commercially-available varistors.
