Abstract
Catalysts of Ru of its alloys or dioxide, and a metal oxide capable of forming a stable mixed oxide (ruthenite) with RuO2. The metal oxide is from Group II A, pref. Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba oxide. The Ru is pref. used as an alloy of 5-75 (35) wT. % Ru and 25-95 (65) wt. % Pt. The catalyst is applied to a carrier, pref. a refractory ceramic honeycomb type. The catalyst is used for the oxidn. of and hydrocarbons and reduction of NO in exhaust gases from engines using approx. stoichiometric fuel/air ratios, in a single stage. Also for other catalytic processes using Ru, eg. methanisation. Fischer-Tropf reaction, steam-reforming of naphtha and ammonia synthesis. Better stability at high temps. than known catalysts contg. Ru or its alloys, which lose Ru by volatilisation.
