Abstract

Small scale effluent treatment plant combining sepn. of solid impurities by gas bubble floatation with oxygenation of organic impurities by prolonged contacting with air bubbles. The plant comprised a closed-top tank divided into several compartments by vertical partitions and that effluent flows through the compartments in series between an inlet and an outlet at the other end. Each compartment but the last is a flotation cell with gas-bubble forming equipment, e.g. electrolytic equipment, and anti-turbulence baffles. The liquid surface is under pressur of a counter-current air stream between fans, the air-stream oxygenating the liquid and urging floating scum to an outlet. Flotation cell aeration is increased by partial recycling via a pump with air inlet. The outlet of treated effluent is pref. via an air diffuser having an air exhaust. Treatment of polluted effluent, particularly from small scale sources' such as farms and dairies. Compact, high efficiency plant which is inexpensive and easily installed by small users.
