Abstract

The unit for cardiac defects, injects into the thorax a constant h.f. alternating current via a pair of resistances and electrodes placed on the thorax. A first electrocardia chain is fed via other electrodes placed on the thorax to detect signals representing the cardiac electrical activity, and supplies constant amplitude and duration impulses representing the electrical waves for this activity. A second rheocardiac chain is fed by further electrodes on the thorax to obtain a h.f. signal modulated by the impedance variations engendered by mechanical cardiac and respiratory activities. This chain demodulates this signal and filters it to extract the modulation component representing cardiac activity, and supplies a second set of impulses representing characteristic oscillations of this component. The set of impulses are measured in a unit indicating the exceeding of max. and min. permissible values.
