Abstract

A switch with an enclosed blast chamber system, especially one using sulphur hexafluoride, in which the blast chamber is in two sections separated by an insulating partition (3), one containing the blast contacts being in communication with the other (5) through a nozzle-shaped aperture (6) in the partition. In the ON position the movable contact (10) projects through this aperture; on switching off it is withdrawn so that the arc runs through the aperture so that the pressure and temperature in the chamber increase and force a blast through the nozzle.
