Abstract

A filter or separator pad is formed from a knitted fabric having certain courses formed by a different, pref. more flexible, yarn than the yarns forming the other courses, so that the fabric forms corrugations with the troughs extending along the courses of more flexible yarn. The fabric is then rolled up helically in a direction oblique to the lines of corrugations. The paid is used partic. for de-aerators or supporting e.g. catalysts, etc. The fabric is flexible and easy to make since the corrugations form naturally due to the different nature of the yarns. The corrugations are uniform. The more flexible yarns may be thinner or of a different material than the other yarns. The yarns may be metallic, plastic or of natural fibres.
