Abstract

There is a graduated rule (11) with conically pointed probes (23, 24) which can penetrate into the holes (X, Y) to be measured for their distance between centres (M). The probes (23, 24) are mounted onto slides (12, 13) fitted on the rule (11). Each slide can move up or down on the slide and each slide can move along the rule. The first slide (12) has an accurate comparator gauge (16) which gives a reading of the centre-to-centre distance (M) and the second slide (13) has a vernier scale (27) and a locking screw (28) to set the required value of the distance (M). The instrument is placed on the face (S) with the holes (X, Y) by resting on a bearing surface (45).
