Abstract

Fabric web is fed to and halted at a hemming station, and is there engaged on opposite sides by coacting folders which simultaneously form first folds of two hems while a cutter severs the web across between the two folds. The latter are then turned oppositely, relative to the web plane, through 90 degrees and the web is again engaged on opposite sides near the first folds to form two second folds into which adhesive is deposited by applicators which are withdrawn from the second folds as the double folded hems are being pressed. Esp. for towelling mfr. from continuous webs.
