Abstract

This control system is used in presses for extracting grape or other fruit juices. The press has a central leadscrew with threads of opposite hand on each half. The press cage is geared to a reversible driving motor. Within the cage are arranged two pressing plates which are threaded to the central leadscrew. When the cage is rotated the plates move together or away from each other. One of the pressure plates has on its active face a toroidal pressure sensing element which is connected by a pipe to the control circuit. This pressure transducer produces signals for the minimum and maximum pressure within the pressed material. This signal energises corresponding solenoids which in turn reverse the motor depending on the pressure within the press. A delay element is connected into the switching over circuit. This circuit makes it possible to apply a number of successive compression cycles on the bulk of the material within the press.
