Abstract
The material is subjected to a thermo-mechanical process immediately before being deformed, causing a small grain size to be created in the material, and temporarily putting the material into a state of "superplasticity". The grain size is less than 5 microns. The deformation is then carried out of the optimum rate for the superplastic material. Materials normally difficult to put into a state of superplasticity are treated by thermal soaking and raising to approximately half the material melting temperature. The creation of the superplastic state can be by means of extrusion, rolling, sintering, etc.
