Abstract

A sealing joint for the edge of a butterfly valve consists of an insert of an elastic matl. such as neoprene, but chosen to be appropriate to the liq. passing through the valve which fits in a throat at the periphery of the valve. The insert has a slit, pref. extending for 2/3 of its depth, in which a wire pref. of nylon or stainless steel is located, this consisting of several turns to keep the insert in place while the rectangular throat supports the sides.
