Abstract

The handbrake lever on a motor car is required to operate easily and with a small movement. A handbrake lever (1) is mounted in a support (2) fixed to the vehicle floor (3). The lever contains a spring loaded button (23) at the end of a rod (22) which operates the ratchet arm (19) against ratchet teeth (25) on a cranked lever (17) moving on an axis (18). As the lever rotates on its axis (16) an anchorage (10) attached to the extremity operates the brake cable (13). A shoulder (27) on a lever (28) made of two parallel spaced pieces turns on an axle (30) carried by the cranked lever (17) at the base of the ratchet. A second ratchet (31) engages with teeth (33) on the cranked lever with the effect that small movement of the hand lever gives large movement of the cable.
