Abstract
At the vertical pipe opening a reduction in the pipe bore leads to a sealing ring. Vertically below the seal a cylindrical, open-topped, float chamber is mounted coaxially in the pipe. A round nosed, cylindrical, polypropylene float can move vertically on a guide shaft mounted centrally in the chamber. Fluid flows axially from the pipe through the centre of the guide shaft then radially, via orifices in the shaft, into the chamber. When air is passing the bulk flows in the annular space between chamber and pipe wall, the air which enters the chamber flowing round the float. Water passing will raise the float and close the valve.
