Abstract

The process to convert a heat-hardening formaldehyde resin into fibre matl., from a blend of formaldehyde and urea, uses a urea soln. (A), a monomer which develops a methylol gp. with formaldehyde (B) and formaldehyde (C) to give the reaction, the molecular ratio of (C) to A+B being in excess of 1.5:1. The result is extruded through a spinarette in a hot environment with ambient temps. not below 100 degrees C. The process gives an adhesive fibre matl. for compression, use as paper or as a laminate suitable for industrial or interior decoration applications.
