Abstract
Cpds. (I) are prepd. by dimerising (II) in the presence of a catalyst system consisting of a Pd cpd., a ligand MR'3 (where M is P or As and R' is a (un)satd. aliphatic or aromatic gp.), and a strong alkaline agent, in an alcohol in the presence of a cpd. having ether bond(s). In these formulae, R is a (un)satd. hydrocarbon gp. Pref. (I; R = Me) is produced by reacting a mixt. of PdCl2, Ph3P, NaOPh, isoprene, i-PrOH and i-Pr ether, under N2, in a sealed vessel at 50 degrees for 10 hrs.
