Abstract

A multi-station turret head for machine tools, in particular drilling machines, which has a self contained hydraulic system to disengage the spindle drive at the top of the stroke and allow turret indexing. Each working station (19) is driven from the machine spindle (46) by a sliding shaft (53b), spring loaded down in the operating position. On the upstroke, a hydraulic piston (68) is depressed by part of the machine frame (71). This forces oil through to a cylinder (31) and moves three pistons (33) upwards against the spring pressure, so disengaging the drive shaft (53b). On the downstroke, the operation is reversed.
