Abstract
A reversible energy store comprises a reaction vessel, contg. a cpd. (I) which decomposes, in a reversible physical or chemical process, into a volatile and a non-component; when recombined, these two components release thermal energy. The storage system comprises a store for the volatile component generated during the process, a principal heat exchanger associated with the reaction vessel and connected in series with the store in such a way that the volatile component becomes heated in this heat exchanger when passing from the store to the reaction vessel; the circuit also comprises a heat engine which obtains its energy from the volatile component after it has been heated. Pref., a further heat exchanger is connected in series with the store; in this heat exchanger, a portion of the volatile component is cooled or condensed. Pref. (I) is Ca(OH)2, Sr(OH)2, aq. NaOH, CuSO4, H2O or NH4OH.
