Abstract

Title moulds incorporate dual purpose temp. control passages, near the surface of the mould body, esp. of flexible hose for circulating cooling air, and incorporate spiral resistance heaters wound on a tubular support to sustain the cooling circuit. Mould bodies are mfd. from e. g. metal filled epoxy resin. The heating circuits in the core mould and the mat may have integrated control systems. A semi-rigid lining with a smooth surface finish may be interposed between the heated mat and the moulding surface. Suction may be used to apply the mat to the moulding surface. A flexible heating mat is laid over the surface of material laid on the mould to heat the material from both surfaces and thus reduce temp. cycles and differentials. Used for prodn. of one-off or relatively few mouldings for low cost, ad hoc and/or large area moulds, e. g. for aircraft construction.
