Abstract
The electric door catch is used mainly on fire doors which can be closed by remote control in the event of fire, but if electrical circuit is damaged, cath operates by mechanical means as soon as a specified temperature is reached. Catch comprises flap (1) pivoting on axis (2) when acted on by an electromagnet (3). Thus in turn frees lever (4) which allows cylinder (5) to move under the action of a spring (8). This is the conventional catch. Invention adds stirrup-piece (6) which slides along guide axis (7) under action of same spring (8) and is held by soft metal stud (10) pressing on guide (7). Square (12) integral to one end of stirrup-piece (6) acts on flap (1). When given temperature is reached, the stud (10) melts and stirrup-piece (6) activated by spring (8) moves towards right, releasing flap (1) as in conventional method of operation.
