Abstract

The soln. contains (pref. 0.1-10, esp. 0.2-3 wt.%) aluminium chloride and/or hydrochloric acid, possibly up to 4 wt.% ammonium chloride and (pref. 0.01-0.1 wt.%) a known inhibitor in addition to zinc chloride and possibly an alkali chloride. Specific inhibitors are (alkyl)thiourea. sulphoxides, trithiones and butyne diol. The soln. is used for treating ferrous surfaces prior to hot dip galvanising.
