Abstract
Compressed air or gas contg. suspended solid or liq. particles, or both, is introduced tangentially to the interior of an inverted truncated conical enclosure and is accelerated, forcing entrained matl. to the cone wall by centrifugal action. The gas is then decelerated allowing rejected matl. to fall into a collection sump. Gas is conveyed from the enclosure along an axial collection passage. The filter is for gas-liq. and gas-solid sepn., partic. the removal of moisture and dust particles from compressed air systems used in railway rolling stock brakes. It combines high efficiency of solid and liq. removal with low permanent pressure loss.
