Abstract
Each packing element comprises a sheet of metal or plastic having intermittent slitting on parallel vertical lines, with the strips between the slits pressed into zig-zag corrugations each offset vertically from its neighbour(s) by half a pitch. The packing offers a very high surface area combined with high voidage which reduces pressure loss to a min. When the new packing is used, a column has an output equal to that of a column twice its size using a conventional packing.
