Abstract

Suspended solids are removed, esp. from industrial effluent; by clarification in an aerating flocculater/decanter in which stirring is induced solely by air bubbles. Air is entrained by a vortex at inlet, which leads to a separator close to base of tank, with orifices to release bubbles and liquid, into an upward inclined passage, between sloping baffles; where flocculation occurs. Flow then passes down under bottom baffle, up at side of tank, down again over top baffle and under an upper parallel baffle; and liquid finally exits at an overflow surface outlet. Solids are collected from bottom outlets.
