Abstract
The seals are of an elastic deformable material arranged at both ends of the drum between it and a surrounding housing. As exemplified the rotating drum narrows towards both ends forming end walls in which are axially located apertures for introducing a plasma arc. Outwardly of these apertures the end walls of the drums extends radially of the drums to form discs with peripheral flanges. Each peripheral flange is held within a circular flange on the surrounding housing and between the flanges is arranged the seal. The seal is pref. held in a circumferential groove of the peripheral flange by screws. The drum is mounted on roller bearings and is cooled by fluid sprayed upon both its cylindrical surface and its end surfaces, the fluid being sprayed between the drum end walls and their disc extensions.
