Abstract

in a multi-compartment, continuous crystalliser the walls of each compartment are washed periodically by a delivery of sub-satd. soln. of the prod., this soln. being pumped along a manifold from which it is branched to individual compartmens. Essentially, each branch is fitted with an automatic valve of the fully-open/fully-closed type, all valves being actuated by a programmed controller so that each compartment in turn receives, for a brief period, the full manifold flow available from the supply pump, this flow pref. being sprayed on to the walls above liquid level in the compartment. Full manifold flow being made available to one compartment ensures effective washing back of crystals from the walls. The elimination of mechanical flow distribution reduces cleaning and servicing requirements.
