Abstract

A compsn. for dissolving oil deposits washed off the walls and floor of emptied oil tanks comprises a mixt. of two halogenated solvents (one pref. benzenic and the other naphthalenic). The prefd. compsn. contains 5-20% monochloro- or o-dichloro-benzene, 5-20% alpha-monochloronaphthalene and 6-90% petroleum solvent or synthetic aromatic solvent. The compsns. rapidly dissolve the oil deposits, thus separating them from the water used to wash them off. The water is then suitable for discharge and the deposits can be pumped out.
