Abstract

Slabs made by casting apreliminary layer of concrete, placeing sets of light weight blocks on the cast layer and then covering the inserts with a further layer of concrete where the insert blocks resemble dishes or troughs placed with the rims of the cavity embedded in the initially cast layer. The concrete layers may be bridged at intervals by metal or concrete ties passing between the inserts, and the insert blocks should be of an insulating material, pref. polystyrene or polyurethane. The edges of the hollow blocks inhibit unwanted shifting of the inserts during the second stage casting of the concrete.
