Abstract
Concentration of aphotodissociable molecular species in a gas, e.g. N2O3 right arrow NO+ + NO2-, is measured by an ionic mobility spectrometer, a mass spectrometer, or a detection cell comprising 2 stainless steel electrodes connected across a low potential via a pico-ammeter; ionisation being induced by UV radiation of wavelength exceeding 1000 angstroms, such that its energy reaches that of threshold given by e.g. ionisation potential NO+ + bond energy - electron affinity of NO2-, figures for such constants being available from cited literature. Ionisation is selectived, unlike that induced by known methods, e.g. by alpha irradiation.
