Abstract

A porous fabric (e.g. for shoe panels) is formed by applying a mixt. of PVC, an agent which causes porosity in PVC, and an absorbant powder to a mould, and melting using a high frequency electric field whilst pressing a porous support fabric against the mixt. so that the support fabric bonds to the mixt. The surface of the mould and the inner surface of the support fabric are opt. spray-coated with porous polyurethane films which bond to the support fabric and to the mixt., and a porous material, e.g. PVC foam, wadding, may be sandwiched between the support structure and the mixt. The mixt. may be pre-IR heated to bond the components of the mixt. together without solidifying it. The resultant polyvinyl chloride/support fabric material is porous to air, thereby making shoes produced from the material more comfortable to wear.
