Abstract

A device for generating ultrasonic waves, esp. for welding thermoplastics, comprises an emitter operating at a half wavelength, a mechanical amplifier and a sonotrode or vibrator, the amplifier and sonotrode being tuned to the frequency of the emitter. Mechanical filters (esp. of Ti or duralium) of a half wavelength or a whole multiple of a half wavelength are fixed to the snotrode, pref. in the form of rods situated in the central plane of the damping region at each end of the sonotrode, thus enabling a sonotrode of greater length to be used. Dampening effects are removed by incorporation of additional masses in normally damped end.
