Abstract

A centrifugal separator for removing solid or liquids from a gas flow comprises a rotationally symmetrical chamber, in which the gas circulates and progresses upwards the purified gas leaving at the top, while the precipitated materials leave at the bottom. The inner face of the chamber wall is fitted with one or more helical ribs or grooves which descend in the direction of rotation of the gas, i.e. are of opposite pitch to the helical path of the gas.
