Abstract

Multi-stage, high-speed processes such as rectification, absorption, liquid-liquid extraction, dust washing and direct heat exchange, in which the phases brought into contact are always in parallel (co-directional) flow during the stages of sub-dividing, transporting, sepg. and removal of the heavy phase and during the recycling of the heavy phase. The volumetric proportion of the lighter phase in the contacting chamber is much greater than the volumetric proportion of the lighter phase in the recycling chamber. The flow in the contacting chamber is produced by local increases in speed.
