Abstract

Separation by floatation of Cu oxide minerals, in a subdivided form, is carried out by putting into suspension in an aq. soln. of a floatation agent, followed by liberation of gas bubbles in the suspension to float the Cu oxide and separate the conc. Cu oxide at the surface, using a floatation agent chosen from: I a cpd. of formula in which R' is H or -CH2COOX; X is H or alkali metal such as Na, K, Li; R2 is alkyl of 6-18C or in which R3 is H or alkyl of 1-14C, and R4 is alkylene of C1-C15; R3 and R4 have a total No of C 3-15. II products of reaction of (A) polyamines of formula H2N(CH2CH2NH)nH in which n is 1-6 and (B) organic halides R2Y in which Y is halogen. III condensation products of (A) substd phenols of formula in which R5 is alkyl of 8-12C and R6 is H or (CH2CH2O)xH in which X is 1-3, (B) an alkylene-polyamine of formula H(AN-CH2CH2)yNH2 in which Y is 2-6, and (C) HCHO, or IV halides of quat. hydrocarbyl-ammonium or phosphonium of formula R40A+B- in which A is N or P; B is Br, Cl or I; R0 is alkyl or in which r is 1 or 2, R' is H or alkyl; s is 0 or 1, and the number of C atoms in (R0)4Y+X- is between 10 and 45. In III A is pref. nonyl phenol and (B) is tetraethylene pentamine or diethylene triamine. The Cu mineral is pref. chrysocolla.
