Abstract

Dentifrice consists of a soln. of an N- and Cl-contg. cpd. (A) derived from an alkali(ne earth) metal hypochlorite (I), pref. having formula MOCl, M2Cl(OCl) and/or M2(OCl)2 (where M is Li, Na, K, Rb or Cs and M2 is Ca, Sr or Ba), and an amine (II) which pref. contains >=1 additional active gp. raising the water - solubility of (II) and (A), more pref. NH2CH2COOH, NH2CH2CH2SO3H, NH2SO3H, NH2CONH2, NH2CH2CH2OH, MeNHCH2COOH, AcNHCH2COOH, Me2C(NH2)COOH or (HOOCCH2)2NCH2CH2N(CH2COOH)2. (A) may be used as tablets contg. (I) and (II) and pref. a foaming agent or as tooth - paste contg. thickener. Soln. is pref. prepd. by mixing an aq. soln. of (II) with (I) or by dissolving (A) in water. Stability of (A) in aq. soln. is raised by adding a buffer to setp pH >7.
