Abstract
Slabs of rigid phenolic foam where the cells at the major surfaces of the slab are densified into resin rich layers used to anchor a mat or array of glass fibres. Excess lengths of the mat or fibres may be left projecting beyond the edges of the core to mingle with the fibrous surfaces of adjacent slabs and opt. be impregnated with an ancillary resin, pref. polyesters, to cement the fibre bridges. Complements the thermal and acoustic insulation properties of the core with the lateral strength and stiffness imparted by the fibrous surface.
