Abstract

Coated products are formed by spraying an elastomeric film onto a mould, applying the supporting component to the film and subsequently stripping the film coated support from the mould etc. where the mould is pre-coated with a layer 2-50 mu thick of a soln. of a thermoplastic resin. Pref. the thermoplastic is a polyurethane of a polyamide, deposited by spraying in MEK. Pref. the soln. incorporates a wetting agent, pref. also finishing agents, specif. pigments. Esp. for mfr. of coated mouldings produced in e.g. silicone rubber moulds or by continuous lay-up on to a travelling conveyor. The thermoplastic coating facilitates release from the mould or belt, offers an integral skin or colouring process, renders the coated product self-supporting more quickly, and acts as a parting surface if the product is stored in stack or rolls.
