A cigarette (or pipe) filter is impregnated with hydrated chalk (pref. between 0.05-0.25 gms) to increase retention of nicotine by up to 40%. Pref. the filter is formed from cellulose fibres or paper which is pref. impregnated by dipping in a hydrated chalk bath before the filter is formed.
