Abstract

Characterising the plasticity of a pre-impregnated fibre reinforced moulding material by enclosing a sample in a flexible transparent (polyethylene) bag and using a jig designed to apply first a minor load (2.2-2.5 kgf) and then a major load (65kgf) for an arbitrary period to a food (5cm3) resting on top of the bag and to indicate the change in the height of the sample surface (by a dial-gauge comparator). The lever carrying the major load can be blocked or released by an ancillary handle. Esp. suitable for measuring the flow characteristics of glass reinforced polyester dough moulding compounds, with the samples enclosed in a bag of polyethylene film.
