Abstract
Title fabric comprises wales of chain stitches each incorporating a sinuous elastic yarn and zig-zag weft yarns interconnecting adjacent wales. An elastic (e.g. rubber) or non-elastic pattern yarn is introduced in a wale so that it follows the same path of the elastic yarn for a predetermined number of courses and then zigzags between the wale and adjacent wale for a predetermined number of courses. When the pattern yarn is introduced into the course adjacent the edge of the fabric a sinuous or festooned edge is formed and in this case if the weft yarn interconnecting two wales adjacent the edge is omitted the edge is formed with a series of loops. The pattern yarn may be incorporated in the middle of the fabric. The pattern is formed integrally with the base knit and the fabric is cheap to produce.
