Appts. for handling a row or pile of long hollow ended articles e.g. tubes, comprises a carrier beam which is at least slightly longer than the tubes; two carriages >=1 of which is mobile, mounted at the ends of the carrier beam and each of which support a cross beam with teeth turned towards each other and which engage in the hollow ends of the tubes when the carriages are moved towards each other. PRef. each cross beam has >=1 row of equidistantly spaced teeth whose spacing is greater than the largest transverse exterior dimension of any of the tube suspended between the cross beams.
