Abstract
A sleeve of polyolefin material used to separate electrical conductor elements from an insulating sheath. Pref. sleeve made of 'low pressure' polyolefin, pref. 20-60 mm thick. Esp. for covering conductors in extruded and post cured sheaths of e.g. rubber or polyethylene. Sheath protects metal, esp. Cu, conductor materials from direct contact with typical sheathing crosslinking agents such as S or peroxides which are also reactive w.r.t. the metal. Also provides a non adhesive surface, facilitating stripping of the insulation to expose the conductors for making contacts. Polyolefin relatively impermeable to water by diffusion or 'wicking' of paper or polyester based wrappings, less migrating than coatings of (silicone) oils or greases. No specific polyolefin quoted for use as the sleeve.
