Abstract

Aq. mixt. use for sizing glass fibres esp. suitable for reinforcement of polyamide compsns. (pref. nylon) contain 2-20 wt.% of a film-forming urethane latex emulsion (pref. based on a polyether), 0.05-1.5 wt.% of a lubricant for glass fibres (pref. a polyolefin emulsion) and 0.1-1.5 wt.% of a silane coupling agent (e.g. gamma-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane). The latter provides a strong link with glass, whereas the urethane latex has affinity for polyamides.
