Abstract

The resins contain >=1 1,2-epoxy gp. and >=0.1 wt. % chemically bound P or S at least part of which is in the form of a quaternary- onium salt. The salt is pref. of boric acid and/or an acid with dissociation constant higher than 1 x 10-5 and the resin pref. also contains at least 1 wt. % oxyalkylene groups. The resins form non-gelling clear or colloidal solns. which can be electrodeposited on cathodes giving coatings resistant to corrosion even on umprimed metals and in absence of corrosion-inhibiting pigments. They are resistant to staining and corrosion and have good throwing power and film-forming properties.
