Abstract

An installation for preventing and/or extinguishing fires at oil well borehole tubes on land or at sea comprises a storage tank with refrigeration and pressurising equipment for maintaining CO2 in liquid form, and valves and conduits linking the storage tank to a distribution system surrounding the top of the bore tube with a large number of nozzles facing inwards to direct the CO2 towards any flow form the bore. The main outlet valve is operated by a direct current motor fed by an independent circuit and brought into action by any one of a number of detectors of emergency push bottons.
