Abstract
Bags are made by folding a sheet of plastic film in two, inserting a tape or cord of plastic material along the inside of the fold and simultaneously partitioning the film and anchoring the insert tape by pairs of transverse welds across the folded sheet. The tape is trapped by an extra weld parallel to the fold and accessible via a hole cut in the fold. Pref. an extra hole or perforate seam pre-cut in the film below the zone of the weld parallel to the fold allows access to the contents of the bag. Suitable for general bag mfr., esp. for packs where access to contents is undesirable prior to use, e.g. bandages, nappies, underwear. The tapes can be readily inserted during normal automated bag folding and welding operations to reinforce the basic film without requiring a complex prefabrication or insertion procedure.
