Abstract

This addn claims prior to stage (c) of the parent process, the latex backing receives a subsequent layer of sintered plastics granules or chips. Pref the coating floods the woven backing and also the roots of any pile to enhance the integration of the structure, the granules being sufficiently pre-plasticised to have a molten tacky surface and incorporate a blowing agent to form a layer of flexible foam integral with the back of the carpet or tile. Granules of differing colours may be used together. The pellets or granules sintered to form the bulk of the backing can be made of a much cheaper grade or source of material, e.g. reground chips. The layers being made which are flexible and 0.793-12.7 mm deep.
